RENOWNED sculptor, Dominic Benhura, opened a solo exhibition on Sunday in Unterbrüz, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany.

Benhura, who exhibited his animals, birds and family-oriented pieces, said the real art is in finding the balance between simplicity and chaos.

For him, sculpture is the ultimate reflection of physical reality and one does not need to be a judge to appreciate his dynamic art.

In an interview with H-Metro, Benhura described the experience as a privilege and feels honoured to be in the company of the many eminent artworks.

“It was a humbling experience, that people I do not know hear about my show and art history and make time to travel for hours to a place far from big cities.

“It was a good turnout that the Zimbabwe Ambassador and Minister/Counsel of ZTA and the Germany Ambassador to Zimbabwe was there too.

“I will be back at the end of this week.

“I always have work or several works in progress at my workshop.”

Through the years, Benhura has helped to transform Shona sculpture into world-class modern art.

He has showcased his collections at major venues and festivals such as the EXPO‘92 in Seville, EXPO 2000 in Hannover, the Yorkshire Sculpture Garden (UK), the Millesgarden Museum (Sweden) and, in 2008, at the Hortus Botanicus in Leiden (Holland).
