CHINA-BASED filmmaker Violet Avoid was recently appointed as an ambassador to represent Africa at the prestigious Beijing Film Academy.

Avoid said she wants to see more students from Africa enrolled at the Beijing Film Academy.

There are only two African students currently studying at the academy.

She is the only Zimbabwean to study at the academy.

In an interview with H-Metro, she said:

“It’s my wish to see Africa doing more and being recognised in the film industry.”

Avoid believes that if more African countries demonstrate a passion for film making, the continent can compete with the global film industry.

Her camp has hailed her.

“She encourages aspiring filmmakers to explore alternative options, such as government scholarships, grants, and support from well-wishers.

“Her aim is to promote the Beijing Film Academy and encourage more African students to apply.

“Her vision is to see a surge in African representation in the film industry which would, in turn, elevate the local film and entertainment industry in Zimbabwe.

“Her achievements serve as a beacon of hope, inspiring a new generation of African filmmakers to pursue their dreams and strive for excellence.”

The Beijing Film Academy is ranked among the top 10 film schools globally.

It has produced some of the finest producers in Hollywood and Bollywood.

The former Tiriparwendo actress scooped the Best Monologue Presentation award and Best Script Writing award at Communication University of China and at the Beijing Film Academy.
