STAND ROW SUCKS IN BUSINESSMAN

BUSINESSMAN Michael Kawanzaruwa is back in court facing fresh fraud charges.

Kawanzaruwa appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi yesterday.

He was remanded out of custody to April 27.

The complainant is Caleb Chihlangu.

The brief allegations are that on March 28, 2021, Kawanzaruwa, in connivance with Martin Kambanja, who is already on remand, advertised in the Sunday Mail newspaper that they were selling residential stands in Warren Park.

Chihlangu was interested in buying one stand and met with Kawanzaruwa at his office in Gunhill.

He advised Chihlangu that he had a stand in Warren Park D measuring 350 square metres at a cost of US$7 800.

On 31 March, 2021, Chihlangu went to the duo’s offices and paid a deposit of US$2500.

Kawanzaruwa allegedly indicated that he was the owner of the stand and drafted an Agreement of Sale which they entered into.

Kawanzaruwa allegedly then gave Chihlangu an offer letter and an Agreement of Sale with City of Harare.

He told him that everything was above board.

However, Chihlangu observed that the offer letter stamp was backdated to 30 March, 2020, and he became suspicious.

Chihlangu paid US$8000 for the stand and requested for a site plan and started building a cottage at the stand.

Sometime in November 2021, Chihlangu was approached by one Veronica Chituwo who informed him that the stand belonged to her and demanded that he stops developing it.

She stated that it was allocated to her by the Warren Park D Collective Housing cooperative.

Chihlangu then approached Kawanzaruwa and he promised to resolve the issue but he never did.

Rufaro Chonzi prosecuted.
