Eleven People Including Three Foreigners Arrested After Kidnapping A Businessman

Eleven people, comprising three foreign nationals, have been arrested and thrown in remand for the kidnapping of a businessman and demanding a hefty amount as ransom.

Over the weekend, two individuals from China and a Congolese clergyman found themselves detained following allegations of abduction and a subsequent ransom demand of US$120,000. The detained parties include Guo Zairen, 34, Wango Gao, 40, and Charles Matondo, aged 40, founder of Christ Faith Ministries.

The trio, alongside several locals, including self-proclaimed prophetess Primrose Miga and others, allegedly conspired to kidnap a fellow Chinese national, Cheng Song. Prosecutors claim the group, assisted by an individual named Tendai Notice, approached Song at a restaurant under the guise of law enforcement, handcuffed him, and forcibly transported him to a residence in Harare.

Legal Proceedings and Bail Hearing

During a bail hearing, the defence argued against flight risk concerns raised by the prosecution, attributing the suspects’ attempt to evade arrest to the circumstances of their encounter with law enforcement. They emphasized that the incident stemmed from a dispute between Song and the Chinese defendants, exacerbated by alleged misrepresentations of the police.
