Some Harare patients have recounted strange experiences they had with two fake doctors caught at Parirenyatwa Hospital recently.
Fake Doctor Misinterprets An X-ray Film While Holding It Upside Down At Parirenyatwa Hospital
Last Tuesday, 23 April, an alert Dr Takudzwa Kurangwa, and loss control officer at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals, Whatmore Tagurira, apprehended Douglas Garikayi Mutoredzanwa who posed as a fake doctor.
They handed him over to the ZRP leading to his arrest on charges of impersonation and theft of drugs. The Harare Magistrates’ Court remanded him in custody because of his previous criminal record.

Mutoredzanwa had entered the room where Dr Kurangwa was attending to a patient. He claimed to be a medical doctor before grabbing an X-ray film upside down and misinterpreting it. Spooked, Dr Kurangwa remained silent as the bogus doctor took two surgical blades, pethidine drugs, three syringes, cotton, cannula-sensitive tapes, and gloves. The real doctor then reported fake doctor to the Parirenyatwa Hospital loss control officer at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.
In Comes The Bogus Gynaecologist
Almost two weeks ago, another fake doctor ran out of luck at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.

On 15 April, Felix Tagonera went to the health institution, posing as a doctor. He had a stethoscope hanging over his clean suit. One Julia Shambare, who was on duty became suspicious after noticing Tagonera walking along the hospital corridors. She told a colleague, Alexander Munera, who apprehended him before the security handed him to the ZRP Post at Parirenyatwa.
Besides the stethoscope, Felix had fake medical business cards in his pocket and a copy of one Charity Mungoda’s certificate.
Patients Share Their Experiences With The Fake Doctors Caught By Parirenyatwa Hospital Staff
Some people have shared their personal experiences with the bogus practitioners.
Felix the fake gynaecologist allegedly went to pharmacies to get prescription drugs and medical instruments without paying.
Douglas Mutoredzanwa is said to be a nurse, hence the pictures of him handling hospital equipment. Another witness said he suspected Mutoredzanwa when he once treated his mother. His knowledge was shaky. The fake doctor was even facilitating illegal termination of pregnancies.
Another on X said Mutoredzanwa treated and injected him, but his condition did not change.
In 2023, South African police arrested and later released one Dr Matthew Lani, who gave medical advice on TikTok posing as a doctor.
