SCOTTLAND TARGETING WEST AFRICAN PLAYERS

TWO South African player agents were at Rufaro on Friday night as part of Scottland’s grand plan to target some players from West Africa just in case they qualify to play in the domestic Premiership next season.

Just days after their biggest win of the season pushed them within touching distance of leaders MWOS, it has been established that Scottland have been looking at the possibility of boosting their camp with foreign players.

The Mabvuku side thrashed Norton Community 7-0 at Rufaro on Friday to record the biggest win in the ZIFA Northern Region Division One championship race this season. The match was handled by top referee Brighton Chimene with ZIFA resolving that the remaining league matches for Scottland and MWOS will only be handled by the country’s leading match officials.

A number of player agents, including two from South Africa, who have not been named, were part of the crowd at Rufaro.

“The grand plan is being laid out and that is why those player agents from South Africa were at the stadium on Friday,” said the sources. There are some players from West Africa who are being targeted and those agents have been taking care of the processes.

“You don’t wait for the season to end to start preparing and we are not just looking outside our country but we are also looking inward and we are targeting some established PSL players.

“When you want to make a grand entrance you go big, that is what Simba Bhora did at the start of the season by bringing in the likes of Walter Musona into their camp.

“The results speak for themselves and we are saying if Simba can come close to winning the PSL, why can’t we do the same and we also want to go big.”

Genesis Mangombe and his Scottland are hoping to return to the Premiership after they hammered 10-man Norton Community 7-0 at Rufaro on Friday.

The huge victory for Mangombe’s men, who could have won by an even bigger margin, meant they reduced the goal difference between them and leaders MWOS to five goals. With five games to go, there is little to divide the top two team seven though Scottland appear to have the edge as MWOS are feeling the relentless pressure.

It was a seven-point gap, not so long ago, which effectively was 10 given that MWOS were guaranteed three points from their abandoned league match against Trojan Stars. But, the gap has disappeared, in a blink of an eye, with MWOS picking just two out of six points in their last two games, including a frustrating 1-1 draw at home on Friday.
