COMEDIA HOSTS DEBUT SHOW

COMEDIAN Mike Chipere is set to host his debut stand up show dubbed ‘This Was Overdue’ on November 9 at the Reps Theatre in Harare.

In an interview, Mike said he gathered the courage of hosting a one-man show following days of intense conversations with Doc Vikela.

He said the show is meant to showcase his skills and ability to drive crowds following years of doing shows under the flagship of other comedians.

Mike said the country’s comedy scene is gaining momentum as locals are now appreciating it as part of their entertainment choice, saving as a ground to launch his career in hosting a one-man show.

“I have been under the flagship of other comedians for quite some time now.

“Doc Vikela sat me down and we had deeper conversations regarding where I want to be in terms of my career in comedy.

“I’m grateful that we have such individuals in our industry who are willing to push stand-up comedians like us without feeling threatened or undermined for it is a tough space.

“It is through this that I got the courage to plan for my first one-man show and I’m promising I will not disappoint my audience.

“I’m also grateful to the Council of Clowns and Simuka Comedy, who are giving us comedians the platform to perform so as to enhance our skills and in the long run we hope to match what is being displayed on the international scene.

“The comedy scene is really gaining momentum locally unlike in the past as people used to see it as more of a western culture but we have made strides to make it more appealing to the demands of the local fans hence we’re witnessing a significant improvement, even in attendance,” said Mike.
