RISING sungura musician Mark Ngwazi, who is reeling from his BIGGEST FLOP since he emerged on the musical scene amid a wave of great expectations that he was set for superstardom, appears to have been badly shaken by the way he was snubbed in Gauteng at the weekend.

His two shows in Johannesburg and Pretoria on Saturday and Sunday were a huge flop with less than 200 fans attending both shows.

Yesterday, when he was contacted by H-Metro for his comment, Ngwazi appeared to be still reeling from the way he was subbed in South Africa.

“I don’t have anything to say, my manager will contact you for the response,” he said.

With Sungura King, Alick Macheso having sold out his last shows in South Africa, the way Ngwazi’s shows flopped has, inevitably, triggered a social media storm in which comparisons between the two artists are being compared.

A constituency of Macheso’s die-hard fans believe Ngwazi has been poking at their idol with statements which imply that he is now at a level where he can be compared to the Orchestra Mberikwazvo boss.

These fans now claim that the way Ngwazi flopped in Gauteng shows that he is still miles away from being compared to Macheso.

Of course, Ngwazi has his loyal constituency which is still backing him despite the poor reception he received in South Africa.

They are arguing that all the artists, just like football teams, can have a bad day at the office and this did not mean that Ngwazi is not a popular musician with a strong following.

The story has divided fans with some saying Ngwazi was not yet ready to perform outside the country. Fans have been flooding our social media platforms with their comments and below are some of their views:
