WHILE the celebratory dust has settled following Zimbabwe’s 3-1 thumping of Namibia at Orlando Stadium on Monday, hundreds of Warriors fans have made a special plea to ZIFA to stage more such matches in Johannesburg.

The Warriors have been playing home matches in different territories and this week they were back at Orlando Stadium where hundreds of supporters turned up to cheer the team.

The fans were of all ages and genders.

The vociferous crowd seemed to have spurred the Warriors to do better as they demolished the Brave Warriors of Namibia in the second half.

A brace by Walter Musona and a late strike from Prince Dube ensured the team bagged all six points from Namibia whom they had beaten 1-0 a few days earlier in an empty stadium.

After the match some fans pleaded to have the next match against Kenya on November 11 to be played at the same venue.

“While it is not ideal for any nation to be playing away from home, under the current circumstances, we plead with ZIFA to schedule a better time at Orlando Stadium,” said businessman James Chetsanga.

“More people entered the stadium close to half time.

“It would be ideal to push midweek games to a late kick-off, say 7pm, so that those that will be working can have enough time to travel to the stadium.”

Oscar Murefu, an ardent fan, weighed in:

“I have been attending all the matches played here at Orlando. This is our home away from home and more matches should be staged here.

“If we mobilise nicely, we can fill up Orlando.

“You can see the vibe added some fighting power into the Warriors during the game.

“Previously, against Lesotho, they struggled. We need more fans at the stadium against Kenya next month. We will conquer,” said Murefu.

Warriors cheerleader, Chris “Romario” Musekiwa, has praised the fans who thronged the stadium.

“I would like to congratulate the coach Michael Nees and the team for a job well done as we edge closer to AFCON 2025.

“A big thanks to the Zimbabweans who came in their numbers to support the team. It made a huge difference. Some in the corporate sector, like Zororo-Phumlani, who ensured the team’s preparations ran smoothly,” said Romario.
