AMBITIOUS Division One side Scottland have said they will not give credibility to the allegations of match-fixing in their game against Norton Community, which they won 7-0, at Rufaro on Friday.

The Mabvuku-based side have shaken the establishment in their debut season in the Northern Region Division One league by transforming themselves into one of the favourites to win the sole ticket into the Premiership next season.

Formed at the beginning of the season, Scottland have managed to lure the likes of Ronald Pfumbidzai to leave South African football and come home and play in Division One, where he has become one of their most influential players.

They also wooed King Nadolo from domestic Premiership side Yadah, during the mid-season transfer window, while also signing Denver Mukamba.

This week, Norton Community revealed they suspended their coaches – Clemence Masunda and Willard Nguwoyembwa – goalkeeper Brandon Bere and executive committee members Tafadzwa Kuyerukana and Patrick Nyamayaro as part of investigations into match-fixing.

However, Scottland secretary-general, Fortune “Giant” Bgwoni, told H-Metro yesterday his club will not comment on such allegations.

However, a source at the club told H-Metro that they found the “allegations to be ridiculous” and “meant to divert our attention.”

He said:

“It would have been funny if it wasn’t that our name is being dragged through the mud but this is ridiculous, to say the least.

“Unless, they are saying it’s not allowed to score seven goals in a league match and that means they have to investigate the World Cup semi-final match between Brazil and Germany in 2014, in which the Germans scored seven goals.

“Brazil were the home team.

“We saw Liverpool also score seven in a game against Manchester United, so it has to be investigated too, and there is that game between Dynamos and CAPS United in the ‘80s.”

He added:

“In the PSL last weekend, a team scored six goals, and those who lost never said their players and coaches were paid.

“Karoi United lost by five goals to MWOS and we did not say that it was because Karoi is coached by someone who used to be a coach at MWOS because we know that is football.

“There is just a difference of two goals between those goals which Karoi let in and what Norton let in. Both Scottland and MWOS are in action, away from home, today.Scottland have a date against Chinhoyi while MWOS are in Harare for a date against Golden Eagles.

Scottland coach Genesis Kaka Mangombe says Leeroy Mavhunga has been one of their key men.

“I used to coach Leeroy at Yadah, of course, it was on a short stint but he understands what we want.

“His biggest weapon is speed, which suits us very well, and also the philosophy we want.

“Leeroy is an individual who expects special treatment, ukamubata sezai and gives him freedom to express himself well and deliver.

“Remember, he once played for the Warriors, you can see that he has everything in him to find his way back to the top.

“He is proving to be one of the best wingers in the country, he can take on defenders, give pinpoint crosses and he can do anything at any given time.”
