THE local music industry will mark the 13th anniversary of the death of sungura music star, Tongai “Dhewa” Moyo, with a commemorative show in Harare and Chivhu this weekend.
The first show has been slated for the Longchen Plaza tonight.
Tongai died on October 15, 2011.
His son and heir to the Utakataka Express, Peter Moyo, has organised a commemorative gig tonight at The Yard Bar (formerly Bar Rouge).
The commemorations will last until Sunday.
Peter will join hands with some of his friends in the music circles, many of whom were inspired by his late father.
“It’s been 13 years since we lost my father and to honour him we are inviting all his long-time fans to converge for a commemorative gig that we have set for The Yard Bar tomorrow (tonight).
“This is always a big day on the calendar for me, the band, and the whole family as we remember our father and honour his legacy,” said Peter.
Tonight, Peter will open the celebrations at The Yard where he will share the stage with various artists.
Tomorrow, the celebrations will proceed to Phil-Jen Country Club in Chivhu where he will share the stage with Jah Signal, Junior Flavour, Vharazip and Crew and Dj Chibbz at a family fun day.
On Sunday, Peter’s Utakataka Express will meet Progress Chipfumo’s Sounds of Motherland at Zebra Village in Mbare.
Chipfumo, who is also launching his seventh album today, will get a chance to take his new project to the people.
Peter Moyo has also hinted on introducing new stuff during this Dhewa commemorative weekend.
