FORMER champions Ngezi Platinum Stars were held to a draw by Chicken at Barbourfields yesterday.
With Chicken Inn asking a lot of questions from the Ngezi Stars’s rearguard, they were duly rewarded with a goal after Elshamar Farasi unleashed a wonder strike that beat Nelson Chadya all systems out in the 44th minute.
Seconds later, Ngezi’s Talent Chamboko levelled matters after the Gamecocks were found in sixes and sevens at the back.
With two games to go before the conclusion of this season, Ngezi Platinum Stars, who were coming from another 1-1 stalemate against Bikita Minerals, are now on 48 points.
Yesterday’s draw took the Gamecocks points tally to 42, 24 behind the league champions Simba Bhora, who reached 66 points, after edging already relegated Arenel Movers 1-0 at Luveve.
It was an exciting game from both teams. We all played well. We had good ball possession and with luck smiling at us we could have beaten Chicken Inn.
“We just needed to be accurate in-front of goal and I believe if we had implored soft basic defensive tactics, we could have avoided their goal.
“However, soon after the goal that we conceded our response was good, especially from Chamboko (Talent), who had made a mistake that saw us concede.
“It is not easy to collect a point against Chicken Inn because they have a strong side and they’re still building something,” said Ngezi Platinum Stars assistant coach Kumbirayi Mutiwekuziva.
Gamecocks coach Joey Antipas said:
“I think it was a good result for us, we had our chances, they had theirs but it ended up as a draw.
“It’s unfortunate we went to sleep after scoring that goal. We can do better.”
