SCOTLLAND are not fazed by the decision by Karoi United to appeal against the Northern Region Soccer League ruling that found them guilty of causing the abandonment of the two clubs’ game.
Instead, the Mabvuku side are already looking at making waves in the domestic Premiership next season and even securing a place to feature in the CAF Inter-club tournaments in 2026. If that happens, it will be very special as one of the clubs they have a relationship with, Highlanders, will be celebrating their century of existence.
Karoi United tendered their US$5 000 appeal fees at ZIFA
The association are now expected to set a date for the hearing when all the necessary paperwork has been put in place.
In their ruling, which was officially announced on Monday, the NRSL disciplinary committee found Karoi guilty of causing the abandonment of their encounter against Scottland at Chikangwe when the match was 1-1.
Scottland chairman, Tonderai Sakupwanya, said his team was concentrating on completing their mission by winning their final game tomorrow.
He believes club patron, Scott Sakupwanya, has already shown his commitment to local football by investing a lot of financial resources into the club and other branches of the game.
“Our patron has many business partners who have come on board and many who we hope will also come on board and support us. When we were sixth on the log standings, our patron predicted that we were going to win the championship race as he had poured in the required resources.
“We recruited top coaches, we had two coaches who had experience in the lower Spanish leagues and it shows the kind of investment that was behind the team.
“From day one, the expectation has always been to win the league and on Friday, God willing, we are winning the title.”
He added:
“We are looking at playing in Africa one day and creating a Scottland Sports Academy in Africa that will empower the youth.
“Our patron has been helping the youths, if you look at our roster we have three or four players that were regarded as spent forces due to drug abuse but they have been revitalised.
“Some of the players had given up, some might have been on drugs, he wants to take the youth from drugs.
“Since joining the club, some of the players’ lives have changed for the better as they are able to provide for their families.
“So the patron has pushed to make Scottland one of the most professional football entities in the country just like clubs in Europe.”
