HERENTALS are the best performing Harare side in the Castle Lager Premiership.
The Students soared into the top four with a routine victory over in-form Chegutu Pirates at Rufaro yesterday.
The Pirates had won three games on the bounce coming into this game.
That good run of form had even convinced some of their fans that Zaire would stage a miraculous escape from relegation.
However, yesterday’s defeat to a solitary strike from Tinashe Mupunha, meant that Pirates fate is now virtually sealed.
Pirates coach Maxwell Takaendesa Jongwe said his team’s chances of survival were now very slim.
“We missed the chances in the first half and that made us our own biggest enemy. We could have buried them in the first half but we could not.
“It is now difficult for us to survive the chop but we will fight until the end.
“The game was evenly balanced but we were unfortunate in the first minute of the second half when they got their goal. The team tried hard as we wanted to survive the chop but we will take it from here.”
Herentals coach Paul Benza said:
“A good performance, indeed, and I am happy with the performance by the boys.
“We now looking forward to winning our remaining two matches and seeing how it goes.
“We have improved a lot and it is good for the team and the players.
“I give credit to my technical team and the players for such good performances.”
