REGGAE/DANCEHALL artist Mic Inity is back home and is a man on a mission.
He made his name as the leading figure in the pioneering ‘Kuma Rasta’ shows at the Red Fox night club in Harare.
He is now based in the UK.
In an exclusive interview with H-Metro, Mic Inity said:
“Upon arrival, I was saddened by the drug abuse pandemic affecting our future leaders.
“This motivated me to launch the Mic Inity Anti-Drug Campaign, in partnership with the National Arts Council.
“I’m concerned about the drug abuse pandemic affecting our future leaders. Most of the youths who are behind bars are there due to drug-induced cases.
“I’ve been there, seen it, and grown up around people taking drugs. We’re intervening to stop chamba or marijuana.”
Mic Inity’s philanthropic efforts have included hosting parties for street kids and clothing them.
He formed Ites Youth Initiative in the UK and Mic Inity Youths Initiative in Zimbabwe.
“We’ve covered Marondera, Gweru, and will proceed to Bulawayo.”
He said living in Europe has helped broaden his horizon.
“It’s good to experience and to broaden your horizon and intellect. However, saying that staying abroad is the best is a blue lie.
“As Zimbabweans and Africans, we have what others dream of – 24/7 sunshine, minerals, natural food, fruits and water.”
He said the musical industry was exploding.
“It’s the biggest and fastest-growing industry globally, with Nigeria earning US$3.5 billion in 2023. We need knowledgeable promoters and serious funding.”
He said he was happy with the developments he has seen in the industry.
“Honestly, I’ve witnessed significant improvements since leaving Zimbabwe. We’re promoting our own, and it’s looking positive.
“There’s still work to be done, but we’re trying.”
When asked about his personal life, Mic Inity chuckled:
“Leave that alone, let’s focus on our kids, I am a happy man.
“Judgement Yard emerged from my Mic Inity show.”
Mic Inity’s discography includes three albums: ‘Freedom’ (2010), ‘Survivor’ (2014), and ‘4.0’ (2023).
His new song, ‘Jah Vibes,’ is currently under production.
