DYNAMOS’ players have revealed that they have been victims of false promises for some time, including not being paid their bonuses from June, leading to their decision yesterday to boycott training at Alex Sports Club.
This throws their Chibuku Super Cup semi-final battle against Manica Diamonds on Sunday into doubt.
Zimpapers Sport understands the Glamour Boys are owed their bonuses for the period from June.
Each player is owed at least US$500 in bonuses. Many of the players are still owed their signing-on fees while others received part payments.
“We have been patient for too long so, maybe, this (strike) is the only language that they understand,” said the players.
“The last time we had a similar situation, they took action and paid off what they owed us.
“What is more upsetting is that these executives have never addressed us on the issues, these days they do not even pop up at our training sessions ,like they used to.”
With the team already out of the championship race, the only chance they have to bag silverware is successfully defending the Chibuku Super Cup.
But their chances of winning the tournament will become slim, if the chaotic player-rebellion is not addressed in time.
“Our weekend game is very important because, if there is anything, we are committed to defend our cup but they cannot use that as an advantage,” the players, who chose anonymity, said.
“When we hosted the derby, we thought they would, at least, pay part of the money but they stood us up in the changing room and never showed up.
“We need transport money to report for training and remember we also have families to feed so we can only be patient for so long.”
Club chairman, Moses Maunganidze, said:
“The boys downed their tools today because they need their bonuses so we are trying to ensure things are sorted and they go back to training.
“It is an issue that arose today and we have to contain it urgently so we are making frantic efforts to manage the situation.
“We have a crucial weekend ahead and it is unfortunate that such an issue had to pop up at such a time.”
