US KEEP SERIES ALIVE

THE United States capitalised on Zimbabwe’s poor batting performance in the third ODI at Harare Sports Club yesterday to keep the five-match series alive.

A win for Zimbabwe would have sealed the series for the hosts with two more matches to play.

The United States won the toss and chose to field first.

It was a decision which bore fruit at the end of the day as they cruised to a four-wicket victory to keep the series alive.

Zimbabwe were bowled out for 179 inside 49 overs.

The Lady Chevrons lost their first wicket as early as seventh over when Sharne Myers was sent back to the pavilion after being caught behind.

The seasoned pair of Modester Mupachikwa and Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano revived Zimbabwe hopes before a collapse which saw the hosts lose four wickets before the 30-over mark.

The Lady Chevrons lost two more wickets in the 33rd and 35th overs.

In need of 180 runs to win, the United States chased down the target in 38 overs for the loss of six wickets.

Debutante Olinda Chare claimed two wickets for 41 runs in 9.2 overs.

Josephine Nkomo claimed two wickets while the duo of Audrey Mazvishaya and Nomvelo Sibanda each claimed one wicket apiece.
